The Friday Focus #4: What Lasts, Supercitizens, and Bryan Cranston
Plus: the inner workings of the Nintendo Gameboy

Hey friends,
Happy Friday!
Earlier this week I discussed the recent Economics Nobel and how it’s relevant to the upcoming Presidential election. Check it out here if you haven’t read it yet!
Here’s everything else I wanted to share this week:

What Lasts and (Mostly) Doesn't Last (8 minutes): We kind of assume that the great books of our time—the classics—were always held in high regard. But that’s just not true. Why do some books become best sellers before disappearing from memory, while other books go unnoticed before being recognized as literary genius decades later?
The Power of Supercitizens (15 minutes): Are you a supercitizen? Could you be? What is it about certain people who contribute significantly to their communities? Who are the people that shape our worlds around us yet go unnoticed? What can we learn from these people about how to live a better life?

Bryan Cranston vs. Bryan Cranston
If you’ve never seen a Dodford video, check this out. A fantastic analysis of the human condition, the journeys we take, and all of the alternate paths we could have chosen, using Bryan Cranston as a narrative device. Will you be a Hal, or a Walt?
The Insane Engineering of the Gameboy
When I look back at the Nintendo Gameboy, “advanced” is certainly not the first word that comes to mind. My memories of blowing on cartridges to make them work and playing for three seconds at a time under the streetlights during a night drive tell me that this was a simplistic machine. But I could not be more wrong. A wonderful video that explains and demonstrates how ingenious the Gameboy actually was for its time.
